Terms of service
Orders and Payments
Rural Modern Furniture is built to your order. Orders may be placed through the
website or by phone at 207-865-4153. A deposit of 50% of the item price, not
including shipping, is required to enter the order into our work schedule. Deposits may be processed on the website or, if you prefer to pay by check, can be addressed to Rural Modern Furniture, Post Office Box 269, South Freeport, ME 04078. Shipping costs for smaller pieces are computed on the website but for larger pieces that
require white glove handling you will want to contact us by phone or email to discuss shipping costs which are evaluated individually based on the item and the
destination. Final payments for your order including shipping are processed on the website when your order is complete and ready to ship. Deposits are typically not
refundable but we do honor "buyers remorse" requests for refunds if your order is scheduled but the work has not been started. Please contact us if you have questions on current lead times which will vary according to our work load.
Warranty
Rural Modern Furniture is warranted against defects in materials and manufacturing for 1 year from the date of the delivery of your order. We use only natural materials in our furniture and these materials will move - expand and contract in size - over the 4 seasons of the year with changes in the relative humidity within your home. These changes are normal and are not material defects. You will see all the normal material dimensional changes over the course of the first year and these changes will continue in a similar fashion every year.
The warranty does not cover problems that result from exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity which can promote material movement beyond acceptable limits. The warranty also doesn't cover finish degradation as a result of exposure to strong UV light or from the use of harsh chemical cleaners. Extended exposure to strong sunlight will affect the color of the finish. This is not a material defect. Standing water can also damage the finish and standing water should be quickly removed. Never place hot objects directly on the furniture. And never use the furniture outdoors.
Please contact us with any qualty concerns you may have as you live with our furniture.
Care
Eastern White Pine is a strong material. It has been used by Maine carpenters to build houses and barns as well as furniture for hudreds of years. It is, however, a
lightweight material and is not as resistant to heavy usage as woods like maple and oak. Pine is durable yet delicate. It's a beautiful material that needs to be handled
gently. It's worth the extra care that is required. The finish can be cleaned with a
simple warm water and soap mixture applied with a damp, not wet, soft cloth. No
additional care is required.
